Opinion: This is my opinion.
I am a Labour Party supporter and member. If it bothers you feel free to report me to the badly named Compliance Unit of the Labour Party. If you do it may or may not get me suspended. Then again it may be put on file for use at a later date. Throughout a crazy Summer Labour party members have been suspended. In some cases they were wrongly accused. In other cases their crime was name calling on a par with the schoolyard. In those cases the old sticks and stones came to mind. It is not nice calling someone a "fat sexist pig"; it is not nice being called a "fat sexist pig" either. But was that enough to suspend a Labour Party member? In this case it is an enthusiastic young man who has campaigned hard for Labour at local elections and for the UK to remain a member of the EU. With real-life struggles including a long and difficult search for work is it any wonder his temper frayed? But it seems that does not matter and neither does abuse by people in the upper echelons of the Labour Party. The political elite are not popular in the UK. They are doing a job and should be commended for that. They do receive a good salary though and plenty of perks. Some of them like to interact on social media, while others like to bait people and ruffle feathers. Often they target known Jeremy Corbyn supporters like the three in this post. You can make of that what you will. But social media is often anything but social and in the heat of the moment banter may become anything including abusive. This week at least three people I know via social media have had their suspensions lifted. But they have all been told a record will stay on file. Is that justice? Is that our free-thinking left-wing Labour Party? One suspension lifted today could not come soon enough. That party member was at breaking point and taking it all to heart. This resulted in myself tweeting to senior party officials that they could soon "have blood on their hands" and I was not being overly dramatic! Most Labour Party members do not believe this purge has been anything to do with real abuse. It may have been in part but it was just too conveniently timed as resigning members of the Parliamentary Labour Party plotted and did their damnedest to remove Jeremy Corbyn from the role of party leader. This week we posted that an "amnesty" of sorts was needed but that is not a one size fits all solution. Some of those suspended will not accept an action which leaves them allegedly guilty with a note on file for future use. For them the way forward will be the end game. Resigning from the Labour Party. Then at least they can save money by no longer paying into the party, they can campaign how they want and when they want as a free person. If they break the law they may face criminal charges but I doubt they will be treat in such an appalling way for using that phrase "fat sexist pig" on Facebook. Me? I would fall into the second category amd wave Labour goodbye. I agree with the above sentiments. I don't need to prove anything to anyone. My loyal membership for over 30 years is my validity. The Labour Party couldn't even get that right, claiming much less in a SAR along with redacted entries to protect themselves. Utter rubbish, and totaly innacurate of course. The date they claim I joined was in fact the date my membership was reduced to retired/non working status, as I had been paying a full voluntary rate before then, even though I didnt have to. They even claimed in an email my application was unsuccesful and therefore stating I had no right of appeal. And then to add further abuse of fact and adding more insult to injury a .pdf was attached informing me I was suspended but not informing me of my right of appeal or exactly what had been alleged that I had done.
