Opinion - a few thoughts on coalitions, political alliances and tactical voting.
There are a lot of shares online Sunday with reference to a piece in the Canary about tactical voting, coalitions and more. As I said earlier Sunday on social media this is not for me. Here are a couple of points to consider. It is just my opinion but think about it: I am not keen on such alliances but that could be just me. In 2015 the thought of alliances was enough to help the Tories along all the way to election victory. All I want is a Labour government and this year. Don't forget numbers around the country will matter as to whether Jeremy Corbyn survives as Labour Party leader if the worst happens Labour do not win the June 8 General Election. There are no guarantees that coalitions and tactical voting will oust the Tories. Many of those recommending such alliances are not lifelong Labour voters. I am which is why my opinion is simply #VoteLabour. Tactical voting can backfire in so many ways. Kerry Mendoza who is lead at the Canary is not necessarily a Labour Party supporter and voter. Consider: "The Canary is generally supportive of Jeremy Corbyn, the current leader of the Labour Party, but has also supported Natalie Bennett (former leader of the Green Party) and the Greens' "radical alternative" to the "Tory-lite" policies of "the neoliberal Labour Party ... The Green Party's rise to viability preceded the election of Jeremy Corbyn, the Momentum movement, and the latest swathe of grassroots movements in Britain winning gains against the austerity politics of the Conservatives."Mendoza claims that The Canary's news coverage was not biased, and that it was "a complete coincidence" that the website was created shortly after Corbyn's leadership victory. "We don't have any affiliations with political parties, we don't have any affiliations with political organisations, and we're not actually ostensibly left-wing", she added, calling the site's editorial stance "a counterpoint to conservative media" and "broadly liberal"." Ultimately it is a business. "The Canary is a left-wing political blog in the United Kingdom, which editor-in-chief Kerry-Anne Mendoza says is "here to disrupt the status quo of the UK and international journalism, by creating content that compels audiences to view the world differently" Some so-called Labour supporters want Caroline Lucas Green Party re-elected but that is meaningless to this blogger. She could always join the Labour Party. As a political Party we are about winning not helping other parties along at least at this time. The Liberal Democrats refused point blank to form a coalition government with the Labour Party in 2010 so why would help them along politically in 2017? Perhaps we all need to "Be careful who is pulling our strings and why." Divide and rule is still true in 2017 and is often deployed by vaious political parties Hold firm and simply #VoteLabour https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Canary_(political_blog) https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/apr/19/gina-miller-best-for-britain-tactical-voting-against-hard-brexit |
